The IRONMAN Group Expands Trail Running portfolio with Acquisition of “MOZART 100” Race in Austria

More than 1.600 athletes from 70 countries are expected to race in next edition on June 19, 2021

Today, the IRONMAN Group announced it has acquired the mozart 100® trail running event, held annually in the Austrian city of Salzburg, birthplace of the world-renowned Austrian composer and the event’s namesake. It is the first major trail-running event in Europe owned by The IRONMAN Group and the first outside Oceania, adding to Ultra-Trail Australia and the Tarawera Ultra Marathon in New Zealand.

“We are excited to welcome Josef Mayerhofer and his team to The IRONMAN Group,” said Stefan Petschnig, Managing Director for The IRONMAN Group in Europe, Middle East & Africa. “Over the past nine years they have firmly put trail running on the European map. Going forward, Josef and our new colleagues will be an integral part of our trail running strategy in Europe and around the world.”

First held in 2012 with a humble 250 participants, mozart 100 has quickly become a centerpiece of the Ultra-Trail World Tour. Today, more than 1600 athletes from 70 countries participate across 6 single and 3 team events. Distances range from the 9km mozart city trail (5.5 miles) to the event’s ultimate test, the 108km (67 miles) long mozart 100 race.

The next mozart 100 event will take place on June 19, 2021.

“Creating and growing mozart 100 was a true team effort and I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to my colleague Claudia Kolussi and our race director Sepp Gruber who both pour their hearts and souls into this events year after year. I would also like to thank all of our partners and our host region for taking great care of us. Most importantly, we all want to say thank you to the athletes who have supported for the past eight editions of the event. Together, we are ready to take the next step and grow the event further as part of The IRONMAN Group,” added Josef Mayerhofer, the event’s founder and managing director.
