IRONMAN 70.3 Andorra, a show between mountains

After months of intense work, The IRONMAN Group will inaugurate the IRONMAN 70.3 Andorra on July 4 with the goal located in the heart of its capital, Andorra La Vella. The triathlon will be the final fireworks to the first edition of the Andorra Multisport Festival, a high-level event that brings together athletes from all over the world.

On its own merits, Andorra is one of the most incredible settings to enjoy endurance sports, and that is why the country hosts this event, from June 22 to July 4. Two weeks of excitement and adrenaline where hundreds of athletes have met to compete in the Andorra 21 Ports, for road cycling, and the Trail 100 Andorra-Pyrenees, for trail running; as well as the Andorra MTB Classic-Pyrenees, for mountain biking, which is taking place these days; and the IRONMAN 70.3 Andorra, to be held next Sunday.

Around 700 participants will start the IRONMAN 70.3 Andorra, which will have many different nationalities. Among the most represented countries will be Spain, France, Andorra, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany.

The test will begin in the magical Llac d’Engolasters, at 1,600 meters of altitude, where the athletes will have to complete two laps of the lake water to finish the 1,900 statutory meters. They will then take the bicycle to enjoy 90 km where the unevenness will be the protagonist, especially due to the double ascent planned to Coll d’Ordino. The last descent will leave them in Andorra La Vella, where they will start the final 21 km flat race around the Valira River, before facing the finish line in the Central Park of the capital.

In addition to the hundreds of Age Group participants who will meet in the event, there will also be some elite athletes who will seek a prestigious victory for their record. Among the men, stands out the presence of Australian Cameron Wurf, champion of IRONMAN tests such as Italy and Australia; the British David McNamee, third classified in the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona 2018; and the Catalan Albert Moreno, fifth in IRONMAN 70.3 Barcelona 2019, as well as other level names.

In the female category, special emphasis on the Australian Ellie Salthouse, specialist in middle distance and champion of IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong 2021; the Swiss Emma Bilham champion of IRONMAN Ireland 2019; and the British Chantal Cummings, fourth classified in IRONMAN 70.3 Zell am See and Kraichgau 2019.
