Daniela Ryf lived up to her role as a favorite at the 14th edition of the IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona and took the superior victory. The American Rudy von Berg prevailed among the men. Overall, the Swiss athletes showed a strong performance.

Daniela Ryf remains unbeaten in the calendar year 2021 and takes the seventh victory in a row at the IRONMAN 70.3 Switzerland in Rapperswil-Jona in 4:09:35. Ryf, who traveled directly from St. Moritz to Obersee after intensive training sessions, was in good shape and won with a 7:02 minute lead over Julie Derron. The 24-year-old Swiss woman switched from her bike to the running track around four and a half minutes behind the Dane Line Thams. There Derron played out her qualities skillfully and achieved the strong second place with the fastest run split. Co-favorite Anne Reischmann improved continuously after a cautious start and in the end secured third place ahead of Thams.

With the men, the starting position kept what it promised. Andrea Salvisberg proved once again that he is a strong swimmer and came out of the water before Rudy von Berg (USA). The two of them kept their pace high and were tied up to kilometer 74. Behind them, a five-man chasing group formed around local hero Ruedi Wild and the former winner Nils Frommhold. While von Berg was able to keep the pace up to the second transition area, Salvisberg had to let go. After a good start, he had to pay tribute to the high pace and finally crossed the finish line in 14th place. Not so with Ruedi Wild: After a strong bike split, he made full use of his home advantage and secured a strong second place finish in his parade discipline. The podium was completed by the German Felix Hentschel, who was able to advance to the top with the fastest time from 15th place after cycling.
